Swift police response echoes past hoax incidents in the region
Thirteen Bengaluru schools received bomb threats via email on Friday morning, with the sender claiming that explosives had been placed on the premises, as stated by the police.
Upon immediate notification, the police initiated searches in the affected schools for any suspicious objects. Bomb disposal squads were dispatched to all targeted schools, spanning areas such as Whitefield, Koramangala, Basveshnagar, Yelahanka, and Sadashivanagar.
A senior police officer, quoted by news agency PTI, stated, "The email claimed that explosives had been planted on school premises. We received a call from the command centre and immediately rushed our teams to schools located in different parts of the city. All students and staff have been safely evacuated from the school premises, and a thorough search operation is being carried out."
In response to the bomb threat, one of the schools issued an advisory to parents.
The advisory issued by the school stated, "We are encountering an unexpected situation at school today. The school has received a security threat from unknown sources. As we hold the safety of our children at the utmost priority, we have decided to disperse the students immediately."
Police reported that last year, seven schools in Bengaluru received similar bomb threats, only for it to be confirmed as a hoax.
