2 Dead In Chennai As Heavy Rain Hits Tamil Nadu

Schools closed in 7 districts!


On Tuesday night, Chennai witnessed heavy rain, leading to the deaths of two persons. Several localities in the city and its outskirts were also inundated following the downpour.

 

As per the information, One man was electrocuted while a woman died after a wall collapsed.

 

The Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday morning declared a rain holiday for schools and colleges in Chennai, Tiruvallur and Ranipet districts.

 

According to the information, Chennai received up to 126.1 mm rain from 8.30 am yesterday till 5.30 am today.

 

In view of the rains, two subways were closed. The city also witnessed traffic congestion and slow movement of vehicles. 

 

According to S Balachandran, who heads Chennai’s Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Ranipet, Tirupattur, Tiruvannamalai over the next few hours. 

 

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu chief minister M K Stalin on Tuesday chaired a meeting via video conference with all the district collectors and other officials to take stock of the preventive measures that have been implemented to mitigate flooding.

 

Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin held a virtual meeting with top officials and instructed them to take swift action on complaints.

 

DMK ministers KN Nehru, PK Sekar Babu, Chennai Mayor R Priya, Chennai Corporation Commissioner Gagandeep Singh Bedi visited the war room at Rippon building in Chennai to oversee the situation across the city owing to heavy rains. Through various cameras set up at flood prone locations, real-time data would be sent to these centres for flood mitigation.
