4 Soldiers Lose Lives in Jammu and Kashmir
In today's incident in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, the army reported four soldiers killed and three injured during a confrontation with terrorists.
The clash unfolded when terrorists initiated gunfire at two army vehicles passing through Dera Ki Gali in Rajouri's Poonch region around 3:45 pm yesterday.
The army had been engaged in an operation in and around Dera Ki Gali, also known as DKG area, since Wednesday night.
The ongoing encounter resulted from a joint operation launched last night in the general area of DKG, based on hard intelligence. A defense spokesperson confirmed the contact and stated that the encounter is currently in progress.
In a tragic incident last month, five soldiers, including two Captains, lost their lives in action during an anti-terror operation led by the army and its special forces in Rajouri's Kalakote.
The region has evolved into a hotbed of terrorist activity, witnessing significant attacks on the army over the past few years.
In April and May of this year, twin attacks in the Rajouri-Poonch region resulted in the tragic loss of 10 soldiers in action. Notably, this region had enjoyed relative freedom from terrorism between 2003 and 2021, after which a surge in frequent encounters began occurring.
In the past two years, over 35 soldiers have lost their lives in action during anti-terror operations in the area, underscoring the challenging security situation.
