6 Killed as Bus Catches Fire in Andhra Pradesh

Collision with another Vehicle Leads to Fatal Blaze and Multiple Injuries


In the early hours of Wednesday, a collision between a private bus and a tipper lorry in Palnadu district, Andhra Pradesh, resulted in a fire that claimed the lives of six people and injured 20 others 

The accident occurred near Pasumarru in Chilkaluripeta Mandal around 1 a.m., when a private travels bus collided head-on with a tipper, according to police.

The bus was en route to Hyderabad from Nilayapalem in Bapatla district. Injured passengers reported that they were returning to Hyderabad after casting their votes in Monday's simultaneous elections for the state Assembly and Lok Sabha.

The victims were identified as Kasi Brahmeshwara Rao (62), Lakshmi (58), Srisai (9), bus driver Anji, and tipper driver Hari Singh, a native of Madhya Pradesh. One victim remains unidentified.

A fire engine rushed to the scene and extinguished the flames, but by then, both vehicles were completely destroyed.

The injured were transported to government hospitals in Chilakaluripet and Guntur.

A survivor recounted that passengers rushed out immediately after the bus caught fire following the collision. Some managed to escape by breaking and jumping out of the windows. However, an elderly couple and a child were unable to get out.

The bus was carrying about 42 passengers. They hailed from Nilayapalem mandal in Bapatla district and were returning to Hyderabad after casting their votes on Monday.
