The AIADMK did not allot the expected number of seats or constituencies to the DMDK
Actor Vijayakanth's Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) quit the AIADMK-BJP alliance on Tuesday, around one month ahead of Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. After three rounds of discussions, the AIADMK did not allot the expected seats or constituencies to the DMDK that turned out to be the reason for falling apart of the AIADMK-DMDK alliance.
“In the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections 2021, the DMDK held talks with the AIADMK in three sittings. The AIADMK refused to allot the requested numbers of the seats and the demanded seats. So as the negotiations did not reach a desired conclusion and since all of DMDK district secretaries reached a decision, the DMDK has decided to quit AIADMK and DMDK alliance from March 9,” Mr Vijayakanth said.
DMDK's original demand was for 41 seats which it dropped to 23 but reportedly, the AIADMK was ready to offer the DMDK a maximum of 15 seats. Meanwhile, the AIADMK allotted 20 out of 234 seats to the BJP last week and 23 seats to another regional ally, the PMK.
