Big Changes In Mahakumbh After Stampede

No-vehicle one, VVIP passes canceled…

On Thursday, 30 January 2025, the Maha Kumbh area was declared a no-vehicle zone, VVIP passes were canceled and roads leading to the fair were made one-way for smooth movement of devotees.

This decision was taken after a day after 30 people were killed in a stampede in the Sangam area.

On Wednesday, 30 people died and 60 others were injured as millions of devotees jostled for space to take a holy dip on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya (new moon) at the world's largest religious congregation.

Following the tragedy, UP CM Yogi Adityanath held a late-night video conference with senior police officers from several districts, including Prayagraj, Kaushambi, Varanasi, Ayodhya, Mirzapur, Basti, Jaunpur, Chitrakoot, Banda, Ambedkarnagar, Pratapgarh, Sant Kabir Nagar, Bhadohi, Rae Bareli and Gorakhpur.

He issued guidelines, including the establishment of holding areas at border points to regulate crowd flow and ensure return routes from Prayagraj remain unobstructed.

Entry of all types of vehicles has been banned in the Maha Kumbh area to ensure proper crowd management and the safety of devotees traveling there. VVIP passes have been cancelled and vehicles will not get entry through any pass.

Vehicles coming from districts adjoining Prayagraj are being stopped at the district border. A blanket ban on the entry of four-wheelers in the city is in place till February 4.
