PM Modi announces Rs 2 lakh compensation for each victim's family?
In Jammu district, a bus carrying pilgrims plunged into a gorge, claiming the lives of 21 individuals and injuring 40 others, as per officials.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his sympathies regarding the tragedy and declared an ex-gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh to be disbursed to the families of each deceased victim, along with Rs 50,000 for the injured.
The Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor also declared an ex-gratia payment of Rs 5 lakh for the families of each deceased individual and Rs 50,000 for the injured in the accident.
The incident occurred at Tangli Morh in the Choki Chora area of the district, where the bus plunged approximately 150 feet down into the gorge.
According to officials, the bus was transporting pilgrims from Haryana's Kurukshetra area to the Shiv Khori area in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Initially, there was confusion regarding the accident's location, with officials mistakenly reporting it had occurred in Rajouri district.
A rescue operation, involving the collaboration of police and local residents, has been initiated to assist the victims.
According to officials, the injured individuals have been transported to the Akhnoor hospital and the Government Medical College (GMC) hospital in Jammu for medical treatment.
