Congress Demands Amit Shah's Apology For Insulting B.R. Ambedkar

The Home Minister attacked the Congress in the Rajya Sabha...

On Tuesday the Congress alleged that during a debate on the Constitution show in the Rajya Sabha Home Minister Amit Shah's remarks that the BJP and RSS leaders have a "lot of hatred" for B.R. Ambedkar and demanded an apology from him.

Former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi said those who believe in Manusmriti will be at odds with Ambedkar.

Congress general secretary-in-charge Communications Jairam Ramesh shared a video of Amit Shah's speech in the upper house.

"Abhi ek fashion ho gaya hai - Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar. Itna naam agar bhagwan ka lete to saat janmon tak swarg mil jata (It has become a fashion to say Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar'. If they had taken God's name so many times, they would have got a place in heaven)," Mr. Shah said, taking a swipe at the opposition.

Mr. Shah remarked that the BJP is pleased to see the Congress invoking Ambedkar’s name but urged the party to reveal its true stance on him. He highlighted that Ambedkar had resigned from the first Cabinet due to disagreements with the Congress-led government’s policies, including Article 370.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge responded sharply to Shah’s remarks, accusing the Home Minister of “insulting” Babasaheb. He asserted that this incident once again demonstrated the BJP-RSS’s historical opposition to the tricolour and the Ashok Chakra, and their preference for implementing Manusmriti instead of the Indian Constitution.

Kharge stated, "Babasaheb Dr. Ambedkar Ji ensured this could never happen, which is why they harbor such animosity towards him." He added, "For millions like me, Babasaheb Ambedkar is revered as a deity. He has always been and will remain the savior of Dalits, tribals, backward classes, minorities, and the underprivileged."

Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, Shah accused the Congress of treating the Constitution as a "personal property" of one family and manipulating Parliament. He criticized the Congress for engaging in appeasement politics and alleged that the party aimed to exceed the 50% reservation cap to include Muslims.

Shah also questioned the Congress's stance on Muslim personal law and claimed that the party never genuinely worked for the welfare of backward communities. He reiterated that the BJP has already implemented a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Uttarakhand and plans to introduce it nationwide.
