Congress Veteran Ahmed Patel Dies at 71 After Battling Covid

Congress veteran Ahmed Patel passes away


Senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel, one of Sonia Gandhi's closest political aid and Treasurer of the National Party, died due to Corona Related Complications, today in Gurgaon. He was 71 and was admitted to the Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon on 15 November. Earlier last month the well known politician has tested positive for Corona infection and his health deteriorated after that. 

In a tweet at around 4 am, Patel's  son, Faisal Patel, informed that the Rajya Sabha MP from Gujarat died at 3.30 am, "With profound grief & sorrow, I regret to announce the sad and untimely demise of my father, Mr. Ahmed Patel at 25/11/2020, 03:30 AM. After testing positive for COVID-19 around a month back, his health worsened further due to multiple organ failures. May Allah grant him Jannatul firdaus, inshallah," he tweeted, requesting all their well-wishers to adhere to the COVID-19 regulations by avoiding mass gatherings.

Obituaries and tributes started flowing in on social media platforms the announcement of Mr Patel's death. Congress chief Sonia Gandhi said she has lost an "irreplaceable comrade, a faithful colleague and a friend". "I have lost a colleague, whose entire life was dedicated to the Congress party," Mrs Gandhi said in an official statement issued. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modiji tweeted  "Saddened by the demise of Ahmed Patel Ji. He spent years in public life, serving society. Known for his sharp mind, his role in strengthening the Congress Party would always be remembered. Spoke to his son Faisal and expressed condolences. May Ahmed Bhai's soul rest in peace," PM Modi tweeted.

Ahmed Patel is the second senior Congress leader to die due  to Covid-related complications, two days before his death, former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has also breathed his last in  Guwahati due to the novel virus.
