Dense Fog Across North India Reduces Visibility

For the second consecutive day, a thick layer of fog has covered north India, dropping temperatures and disrupting train, and flight operations in several states.

The Delhi airport has issued an advisory for passengers that operations have been impacted due to fog. Flyers are requested to contact the airlines for updates. Over 170 flights have been delayed at the Delhi airport this morning and 38 have been cancelled. Srinagar, Chandigarh, Agra, Lucknow, Amritsar, Hindon, and Gwalior airports reported zero visibility.

Over 50 trains heading to Delhi are running late. The 22436 New Delhi Vande Bharat Express is delayed by more than four hours, while the Varanasi Vande Bharat Express is running 14 hours behind schedule. The New Delhi Vande Bharat Express is delayed by 8 hours and 17 minutes, and the Anand Vihar Terminal Superfast Express is over seven hours late.

Yesterday, over 200 flights faced delays as visibility dropped to zero at Indira Gandhi International Airport.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted dense to very dense fog in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and some parts of Punjab and Haryana. At present, the visibility at IGI Airport is reported to be zero, according to the IMD.

IndiGo has stated that it is experiencing significant disruptions in flight schedules due to reduced visibility caused by the fog.

Air India also confirmed that dense fog is affecting flight operations in Delhi and northern India, urging passengers to check their flight status.

Similarly, SpiceJet advised passengers to stay updated on their flight schedules, mentioning that poor visibility in Delhi is impacting arrivals, departures, and connecting flights.

Delhi is expected to remain shrouded in fog until January 8, with light rainfall anticipated on January 6. As of Saturday morning, the temperature in Delhi stood at 10 degrees Celsius.

According to the IMD, a "cold day" is when the minimum temperature is below 10 degrees Celsius, and the highest or lowest temperature is at least 4.5 degrees below the average for the season.
