Karnataka council deputy chairman found dead near railway tracks.
The Deputy Chairmen of the Legislative Council of Karnataka Mr SL Dharmegowda was found dead in Kadur of Chikkamagaluru in Karnataka near a railway track and a suicide note was also recovered along with the body at 2AM on Tuesday morning. His body was taken for further investigation to the government hospital in Shimoga.
Mr Dharmegowda is a member of the Janata Dal(Secular) and was in headlines since he was manhandled in the council during the chaos as the BJP with the help of the JDS wanted to dislodge the chairman through a no-confidence motion and this led to a major turmoil between the leaders of the Congress, BJP and the JDS at the council. The former Prime Minister and JDS chief HD Deve Gowda expressed grief over the death Dharmewgowda and he said “it is shocking to learn the news of Deputy Speaker of State Legislative Council and JDS leader SL Dharmegowda’s suicide. He was a calm and decent man. This is a loss of the state,” a prominent news agency reported.
The Chief Minister of Karnataka BS Yediyurappa expressed jolt over the incident calling it ‘unfortunate’. He also lauded the Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) for conducting the state council efficiently as a deputy chairman. The Chief Minister’s Office(CMO) of Karnataka also expressed condolences on Dharmegowda’s death.
The former CM of Karnataka and the JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy said that Dharmegowda was like a brother to him and he tweeted saying “his death has caused a shock to me. He was an upright politician.”
