36 birds killed; Wildlife protection concerns arise?
Approximately 36 flamingos perished when colliding with a plane near Mumbai, Maharashtra. Reports indicate that migratory birds hit an Emirates flight over the Laxmi Nagar area in Ghatkopar, causing significant damage to the aircraft.
As per Mumbai Airport sources, Emirates flight EK 508 reported a bird strike upon arrival at 9:18 pm on Monday. Thankfully, the flight managed to make a safe landing at Mumbai Airport despite the incident.
During late-night searches on Monday, approximately 29 flamingo carcasses were recovered, with an additional four to five found on Tuesday morning.
As of the time the report was filed, the airline had not yet issued any statement regarding the incident.
The wetlands along the Mumbai and Navi Mumbai coast serve as a renowned habitat for flamingos. These migratory birds typically arrive on these shorelines around December and are often seen until March or April.
