VS Sasikala released after 4 years in jail.
VK Sasikala woi is an expelled leader of the AIADMK and also a close aide of J Jayalaithaa the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, has been freed after spending four years in a Bengaluru jail in a corruption case. However, she will remain in the hospital of the city as she is being treated for Covid infections. The jail authorities of the Central Jail in Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara officially released the 63-year-old after completing the formalities at the hospital. The medical superintendent of Victoria Hospital where she is being kept said that she will continue to be there at the hospital for four to five days more. In celebration of her release a huge crowd gathered outside the Victoria Hospital and raised slogans in her favor and distributed sweets.
In 2017, Sasikala was sentenced to four years in prison in the 66 crore rupees disproportionate assets case. Her sister-in-law J Ilavarasi and VN Sudhakaran the foster son of J Jayalalithaa were also convicted in the case. Just months before the assembly polls in Tamil Nadu came Sasikala’s release from the jail. She was a highly influential force within the AIADMK and in case she rediscovers some of the influence during the upcoming elections she could emerge as a key player.
The Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami hase ruled out the talks of re-entry of Sasikala into the ruling AIADMK which is allegedly under the pressure from its ally in the state i.e., the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
