On Wednesday, 22 January 2025, overturned on NH-63 in Karnataka’s Uttara Kannada district. The truck was carrying fruits and vendors.
11 people were killed and 12 others were injured.
According to the Uttara Kannada Superintendent of Police M Narayana, the truck was taking the vendors and fruits from Savanur to a local fair being organized in Yellapura (a town in Uttara Kannada district).
Rescue operations are going on after a truck laden with fruit overturned.
The truck driver swerved and lost control when he tried to let a vehicle that was trying to overtake from behind, he said.
The officer said, “As the road in the section doesn’t have barrier walls on the edge, the truck fell into a 50-meter-deep valley. The injured have been shifted to the KIMS Hospital in Hubballi."
The truck was carrying more than 30 people, all fruit vendors, from Savanur towards the Yellapura fair to sell fruits. They were traveling on the Savanur-Hubballi road when the accident occurred in a forested area. The truck fell into a valley at around 5.30 am, the police said.
Last month, six people died after a container truck turned over and crushed their car on the other side of the road, near Bengaluru.
