Helicopter accident in East Azerbaijan claims top officials?
Iranian media reported that Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi and his Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian were killed in a helicopter crash in East Azerbaijan province on Sunday. The chopper they were traveling in disappeared over a mountainous region.
Iran's state television reported that there was "no sign" of life among the passengers of the helicopter. "Upon locating the helicopter, no signs of life were observed among the passengers," the state TV announced.
This incident comes amid heightened regional tensions, especially in the wake of the Gaza conflict and Iran's recent confrontations with Israel. President Raisi, in office since 2021, had pledged Iran's unwavering support for Palestine, a commitment reiterated during his recent inauguration speech at a dam.
Iranian state media released videos showing the leader aboard the helicopter on Sunday. The footage depicts the Iranian leader gazing out of an aircraft window, with the camera also capturing several senior officials, including Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, seated opposite him.
