Landslide Kills Over 100 in Papua New Guinea

Remote Village Reports Heavy Casualties?


The Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported that a landslide in a remote area of Papua New Guinea on Friday is estimated to have killed over 100 people.

 

According to ABC, the landslide struck Kaokalam Village in Enga Province around 3 a.m. local time. The village is located approximately 600 kilometers (370 miles) northwest of Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea.

 

Residents report that the current death toll estimate exceeds 100, although authorities have not yet confirmed this number.

 

Villagers believe the death toll could be much higher, with social media videos showing locals pulling bodies from the debris.
