Eight rescued, six still trapped as rescue operations continue.
In Jaipur, a lift collapse at the Kolihan mine in Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu district late last night resulted in one death. The incident occurred at a mine operated by Hindustan Copper Limited, trapping 15 individuals, including senior vigilance officers. Fortunately, the other 14 officials have been rescued.
After the initial rescue, the first three officials with fractures and injuries were transported to SMS Hospital in Jaipur, as confirmed by a doctor from the medical team. Subsequently, five more were rescued in the second round, with the remaining officials following suit, marking the end of a strenuous overnight operation.
The lift collapsed while carrying a vigilance team from Kolkata and mine officials for inspection. The crash occurred approximately 577 meters inside the mine.
Previously, an eight-member team consisting of doctors and nurses was dispatched inside the mine through the exit gate to provide medical assistance to those trapped.
The trapped officials included Chief Vigilance Officer Upendra Pandey, Khetri Copper Complex unit head GD Gupta, and Kolihan mine's Deputy General Manager AK Sharma. Additionally, a journalist who had entered the mine as a photographer with the vigilance team was also among those trapped.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma stated on X that officials have been instructed to expedite the rescue efforts.
He mentioned, "We received information about the accident resulting from the breakage of the lift rope at the Kolihan mine of Hindustan Copper Limited in Khetri, Jhunjhunu. Authorities have been directed to swiftly reach the site, intensify relief and rescue efforts, and offer all available assistance and medical support to those affected."
