Maldives Foreign Minister arrives in India

He will hold talks with Dr S Jaishankar?

On Wednesday, Moosa Zameer, Maldivian foreign minister arrived in India for an official visit to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries.

Zameer is scheduled to hold talks with top Indian officials and discuss various bilateral and regional issues.

After Moosa Zameer landed in India, he took to X (formerly Twitter) and wrote "Arrived in New Delhi on my first bilateral official visit to India! Looking forward to productive discussions, strengthening ties, and experiencing the vibrant culture of India."

Confirming Zameer's arrival in India, the Ministry of External Affairs posted on X "Warm welcome to FM@Moosa Zameer of Maldives on an official visit to India. Discussions on bilateral and regional issues and seeking ways to provide impetus to our multifaceted relationship lies ahead."

The Maldvian FM is scheduled to hold talks with his Indian counterpart Dr. S Jaishankar and deliberate upon issues of mutual interest.

The Ministry had earlier said in a statement that Moosa Zameer would be arriving in India on May 9, 2024, on an official visit, expressing hope that his visit would further 'give momentum to the bilateral cooperation between the two countries'.

The ties between the two countries came under severe strain because of Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu insisting on withdrawing Indian military personnel operating three military platforms in the island nation.
