On Wednesday, 01 January 2025, a man killed his mother and four sisters at a hotel in Lucknow, police said. Police have arrested the accused.
According to the police, Arshad, a 24-year-old resident of Agra, revealed during the inquiry that he took this major step because of family disputes.
Those who died have been identified as Alia 9 years old, Alshia 19 years old, Aksa 16 years old and Rahmeen 18 years old. The fifth is Asma, the mother of the accused, police said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Central Lucknow, Raveena Tyagi, said that the incident took place at Hotel Sharanjit in the Naka area of Lucknow.
"The accused, identified as Arshad (24), allegedly killed five members of his own family. Following the gruesome act, the local police promptly apprehended the accused from the crime scene," DCP Tyagi said.
The forensic teams have been deployed at the crime spot to collect evidence while a detailed investigation has been launched, DCP Tyagi said.
"Inquiry is also being conducted with nearby hotel staff, and any findings will be shared with the media very soon," said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime and Headquarters) Babloo Kumar.
