Pakistan convicts a man linked to the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks

Mir served as the chief planner of the attack!

Mir who is notoriously known as the operative of Lashkar-e-Taiba, was even on the FBI radar for the involvement in 2008 Mumbai attacks on the India’s financial hub that killed a total of 166 people including 6 Americans. He was labelled as a ‘terrorist’ by the US authorities.

Mir was even in the most wanted terrorist list of the international establishments. And the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), offered USD 5 million as a reward for his capture. However, the Pakistani authorities had always responded to the international inquires by claiming that Mir was dead.

Last year, FBI pressurised Pakistan to show proofs of Mir’s alleged death. Details of his death including his death time, place and forensic audit were even requested. But no proofs and meaningful justifications were provided by Islamabad.

The financial action task force (FATF) added Pakistan to its grey list in 2018 which consist of countries which are known for money laundering and financing terror attacks. It is believed by the leaders that the arrest of Sajid Mir and the new developments in his case were made by Pakistan to get off of the grey list.

Pakistan defies accusations saying that they the conviction of Mir was primarily for political gains, by saying that the case had to be carried out quietly because of how sensitive it is. There is no response from India on Sajid’s arrest as of now.
