On Monday, 18 November 2024, the Chennai Meteorological Department forecasted moderate to heavy rain in Tamil Nadu on November 18 and 19.
There was heavy rainfall overnight, with delta regions recording substantial precipitation.
In Nagapattinam district, Vedaranyam received the highest rainfall at 17.5 cm, Kodiyakarai with 13.4 cm. Thiruvarur district got heavy downpours, with Thiruthuraipoondi recording 7 cm of rainfall in just two hours.
In Thanjavur, rains flooded the Pattukottai clock tower and bus station. Meanwhile, Sivaganga district continues to experience heavy showers.
An orange alert has been issued for Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, and Madurai districts.
A yellow alert is in place for Theni, Tenkasi, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Virudhunagar, and Kanyakumari districts. Residents have been advised to take caution.
Schools closed on November 18 due to rain. In Sivaganga, district authorities have asked headmasters to decide on school holidays based on rainfall conditions. Tiruvarur residents are also urging for similar measures.
