Ravneet Singh Bittu to be Congress Lok Sabha leader

Ravneet Singh Bittu is a three-time Member of Parliament and the grandson of former Chief Minister of Punjab, Beant Singh.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Thursday appointed Ravneet Singh Bittu as the Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, replacing Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, for the ongoing Budget session of Parliament. The appointment came as Mr Chowdhury who is the Congress chief of Bengal will be busy campaigning for the Assembly polls for the next two months.

Deputy leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi will also be occupied with elections in Assam. Due to this reason, Mr Bittu will be in charge of party’s strategy in the Lok Sabha where legislative business remains held up due to opposition’s demands to suspend all work and discuss fuel price hike first.

Mr Bittu is a three-time Member of Parliament who was first elected to the Lok Sabha in 2009 from the Anandpur Sahib and then from Ludhiana in 2014 and 2019. He is the grandson of former Chief Minister of Punjab Beant Singh who was assassinated in 1995.
