Charged for Celebrating India's World Cup Defeat
In Srinagar, seven university students were arrested under stringent anti-terror laws for rejoicing over India's loss in the cricket World Cup finals and expressing pro-Pakistan sentiments in Jammu and Kashmir.
The seven individuals, students at Sher-e-Kashmir Agriculture University, have been charged under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
A police case was registered following a complaint from another student, alleging that the accused had threatened a non-local student and raised pro-Pakistan slogans.
Additionally, they stand accused of celebrating India's defeat at their university hostel located in the Shuhama campus in Ganderbal.
India suffered a six-wicket defeat to Australia in the World Cup title clash held in Ahmedabad on November 19.
