On Tuesday evening, Renowned folk singer and Padma Bhushan awardee, Sharda Sinha, died at 72 years old. Complications were there due to cancer.
The renowned singer was admitted to AIIMS Delhi and was undergoing treatment at the oncology department since October 25.
She was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, which is a form of cancer that affects the bone marrow in 2017. She was on a ventilator and died of refractory shock.
Her son posted, "Your prayers and love will always be with maa. She has been called by Chhathi Maiya to her side."
PM Narendra Modi expressed his condolences for Ms. Sinha, "The echo of her melodious songs associated with the great festival of faith, Chhath, will remain always."
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed condolences and said, "I am deeply saddened by the demise of Shrimati Sharda Sinha ji. She was a multi-talented singer who made Bhojpuri language popular. People will remember her songs. With her demise, the folk music world has lost a melodious voice. In this hour of grief, I express my condolences to her bereaved family and all her fans. Om Shanti!"
