National Dengue Control Unit Urges Vigilance as Cases Surge?
Sri Lanka's National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU) has identified 71 divisions across 15 districts, including the capital Colombo, as high-risk zones for dengue fever.
According to a statement released on Sunday, the NDCU surveyed from May 26 to June 1, revealing an increase in mosquito breeding sites.
The agency noted that while dengue cases reported from January to April were relatively low, an increase in cases could be anticipated from May onwards, coinciding with the onset of the southwest monsoon, based on past experience.
The NDCU reports nearly 25,000 cases of dengue so far this year, resulting in nine fatalities.
