On Thursday President Droupadi Murmur (January 9, 2025) said she was distressed to know the loss of lives of devotees due to a stampede in Tirupati, and offered her heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
"Distressed to know that a stampede in Tirupati led to loss of life of many devotees. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and pray for speedy recovery of the injured," President Murmu said in a post.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow over the tragic loss of lives in the Tirupati stampede. In a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, he said, “Deeply saddened by the stampede in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. My thoughts are with the families of those who lost their loved ones. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. The Andhra Pradesh Government is extending all possible support to those affected.”
On Wednesday night, at least six devotees lost their lives, and many others were injured in a stampede as hundreds of people crowded to secure tickets for the Vaikunta Dwara Darshanam at the Lord Venkateswara Swamy temple in Tirumala Hills.
