A man from Bareilly had allegedly slits his 8 months pregnant wife's womb to check the baby's gender, get life imprisonment by the fast track court of additional district on Thursday.
His wife, Anita was admitted to Safdarjung hospital in Delhi by Budaun where a doctor tried to save her life. However, the baby boy couldn't survive the assault.
Accused Panna Lal was booked under section 307 (attempt to murder) and 313 (causing miscarriage without woman's consent) of IPC and sent to jail.
Anita’s brother Ravi Singh said, “Anita was married to Panna Lal almost 25 years ago. She gave birth to five daughters but Panna Lal wanted a boy.
When my sister was pregnant sixth time, Panna wanted her to abort the baby because Panna was conceived by a village priest that she is having another girl, but Anita denied. He often beat Anita but we never thought he would take such a step. We're happy he got this punishment, but sadly my sister could never live a normal life."
