Uttarakhand CM TS Rawat resigns, submits resignation to Governor

Uttarakhand Chief Minister submitted his resignation to Governor Baby Rani Maurya on Tuesday.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat resigned from his post on Tuesday and submitted his resignation to Governor Baby Rani Maurya. Earlier on Monday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda and party’s national general secretary B.L. Santhosh attended a meeting to discuss the political crisis in the state following which Mr Rawat too had met Mr Nadda. The announcement comes ahead of state polls that are to be held next year.

After stepping down from the post, Mr Rawat said in a press conference that it was a collective decision by the BJP that someone else should get the opportunity to serve as the next Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. "Serving the state for four years was a golden opportunity for me which the party gave me. Extremely thankful to the party for giving the opportunity to a man hailing from a small village," he added.

Mr Rawat said that a party meeting will be held on Wednesday. According to the reports, many MLAs had accused Mr Rawat of failing to communicate with them and were of the view that the BJP will not be able to come to power again next year under Mr Rawat's leadership. Two Party observers, Raman Singh and Dushyant Gautam had visited Dehradun on Saturday and met party members amid political crisis. They submitted a report to the party chief following which the decision was taken.
