Safety Harness Slips, Leading to Tragedy
A tragic incident occurred in Italy as a 41-year-old woman, Ghizlane Moutahir, lost her life while riding a zipline at Fly Emotion Park in Lombardo. Despite the adventure sport's promise of soaring 750 feet above stunning landscapes, Moutahir slipped from her safety harness near the end of the ride, falling over 60 feet in front of her family members. This event has prompted an investigation into the safety measures at the park.
According to the New Zealand Herald, witnesses saw Ms. Ghizlane Moutahir struggling in her harness as she neared the end of the zipline, which reaches speeds of 96 kilometers per hour. Despite rapid response from paramedics, police stated that she died instantly upon impact after falling.
Matteo Sanguineti, CEO of Fly Emotion, expressed his shock and disbelief to Italian news outlet TODAY News regarding the tragic incident. "We still don't know precisely what may have happened," Sanguineti said, affirming the company's full cooperation with the ongoing judicial investigation. He also conveyed his condolences to the victim's family and noted that over 200,000 people have safely completed the zipline crossing between the towns of Bema and Albaredo before this tragic incident.
Ms. Moutahir's two nieces, who were with her at the time of the accident, recorded the entire incident while they were also participating in the zipline course.
Police reported that the 41-year-old woman came to a stop on the steel cable and remained suspended in the air for several seconds. It's believed she began to struggle upon realizing she had stopped, which led to her becoming unbalanced and falling from the harness approximately 20 meters into the forest below, resulting in instant death. A police spokesperson mentioned the possibility of a panic attack or another medical episode contributing to her struggle, but they are awaiting the results of the post-mortem examination for further clarification.
Officials are conducting a thorough investigation into the tragic accident. As a precautionary measure, they have temporarily closed the park and will conduct checks on the safety equipment. Additionally, they plan to carefully analyze the video footage taken by Ms. Moutahir's two nieces to gain a better understanding of the incident.
