Syria and India have shared cordial relations for a long time…

On Saturday, 17 August 2024, the Ministry of External Affairs said that India dispatched a consignment of approximately 1400kgs of anti-cancer drugs to Syria for humanitarian assistance.

The drugs are dispatched from India. This is done after keeping in mind the country's commitments to Syria.

"India sends assistance to Syria. Due to its humanitarian commitments, India has dispatched anti-cancer drugs to Syria," the official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal wrote on social media on Friday, sharing a post of the consignment with photographs.

"The consignment of nearly 1400kgs will support the Syrian government and its people to combat the disease," the post added.

Syria and India have historically shared cordial relations built on deep-rooted ties.

The Indian Embassy in Syria has remained open in the entire Syrian conflict. Many people visit India as tourists, businesspeople, and patients.

Moreover, India has contributed immensely to the capacity building of the Syrian youth over the years through scholarship schemes and training courses under the ITEC programme, according to an official MEA release.
