Fire at Rajiv Chowk Metro Station, Delhi

DMRC Issues Statement Regarding Incident?

On Monday (May 27), the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation addressed a circulating viral video depicting a minor fire on a train roof.

In their statement, DMRC clarified that the incident occurred at Rajiv Chowk station as a train headed towards Vaishali at approximately 6:21 p.m. The fire was attributed to foreign material becoming lodged between the OHE and pantograph.

The DMRC elaborated that the incident involved what is known as pantograph flashing, which can happen when external or foreign materials get lodged between the OHE and pantograph. They assured that this phenomenon does not pose a safety threat or hazard to passengers.

Additionally, the DMRC stated that further investigation will be conducted to determine the exact cause of the incident.

In their statement, the DMRC emphasized the continued operation of the route, stating that the affected pantograph was promptly taken out of service.

They mentioned that after approximately 5 minutes of troubleshooting with the remaining pantographs of the train, it resumed its onward journey as usual.

The fire incident today is noteworthy, especially in the context of recent events, as it occurred just days after a tragic fire at a children's hospital in Delhi claimed the lives of at least seven newborns.
