Centenary celebration of Vishva-Bharati University, PM Modi addresses the event.
Visva-Bharati University in Shantiniketan, West Bengal marked its centenary celebration on Thursday in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who addressed the occasion via video conferencing. The Union education minister Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal and governor of West Bengal Jagdeep Dhankar were also present at the event at the university. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) also issued a statement where it states that the PM is the Chancellor of the University
PM Modi in his address spoke about how the Visva Bharati University is the constant source of energy to the country as it is the true incarnation of the founder of the university Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore’s observations, visions and hard work for Mother Bharti (India). The university is a continuous source of energy to the nation to embody the dream of Gurudev that he had dreamt of and the messages that emanates from this university is now spreading to the whole of the world he added.PM further said in the current times India is leading the world in ways and means to protect the environment through international solar alliance and the only major nation on the right way to achieve and accomplish the environmental goals of the Paris Accord is India.
Every region from the north-east-south-west during the Bhakti era tried to keep the consciousness of the country awakened and arisen by the various saints,mahants and acharyas living at those times.Gurudev Rabidranath Tagore founded the Visva-Bharti University in the year 1921 and among all the central universities present in the country Visva Bharati is the oldest. The university was declared as the central university in May 1951 and by an Act of Parliament it was declared to be an Institution of National importance.
